SALARY: Band 5 point 12-18 (£24,496 – £27,344 pro rata) actual salary £21,132 – £23,589

HOURS: 37 hours per week, term time plus 5 additional days

The Northumberland Church of England Academy Trust is looking for a creative, energetic and enthusiastic HLTA to join a committed team at Castle School.

The learners within Castle School have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties such as autism, and receive their education from a highly dedicated and experienced team of teachers and teaching assistants.

It is essential that the successful candidate is committed to providing the best opportunities to our pupils, and is able to create an environment where they can be inspired and learn in a purpose built provision that has facilities such as multi-sensory rooms, a hydrotherapy pool and an independent living area.

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The purpose of this role is to work under an agreed system of supervision and take the lead role within the school to address the needs of pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils learning.
  2. Develop and implement IEPs.
  3. To actively promote inclusive practice within the classroom setting to ensure acceptance of all children.
  4. Encourage children to play and interact with one another.
  5. Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
  6. To have challenging expectations that encourage children to act independently and build self-esteem.
  7. To administer medication to pupils in line with the school’s policy.

This is a temporary position working 37 hours per week, term time plus 5 additional days.

The person undertaking this role is expected to work within the policies, ethos and aims of the school and to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be assigned. The duties of this post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or level of responsibility entailed. You may be required to carry out additional duties commensurate with the level of the role.
