Community Links

The Josephine Butler Primary Campus is at the heart of the community, which is steeped in the history and traditions of mining and the coast. Our aspirations are to ensure our children leave us with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the modern world whilst also having pride and understanding of the heritage of their community.

We recognise and value the role our parents/carer’s play in the partnership for the educational growth of each child. We value and depend on their support and cooperation.

As a Church of England Primary Campus we have close links with the parish church of St Johns and the church at Newbiggin, where we attend The Easter and The Christmas Journey. We also support the shoebox appeal through a group in Lynemouth.

We have supported The Ashington Music Society with events and our choir sings at local residential homes and Wansbeck Hospital.

On a Monday morning we host Wansbeck Toddler Group in our hall.  This is a welcoming group of volunteers and parents who meet at 9:30am and share refreshments and activities with their pre-school children.  This enables us to establish relationships with our families from this early opportunity and see the children develop all through school. This group costs £1 a session.  For more information contact Clare Marson, our nurture teaching assistant, on 01670 816111.

We also have very close links with The NCEA two-year-old provision at the Robert Stephenson Campus.  This provides places each morning or afternoon for up to 20 children.  For more information contact Clare Lishman on 01670 816111.
