Are you interested in becoming a childminder?
The Northumberland Church of England Academy is registered with Ofsted as a Childminder Agency. This allows us to train, support and register our own team of childminders to care for children of families within the communities of Ashington, Newbiggin and Lynemouth.
Why has NCEA registered as a Childminder Agency?
Our admission age at the Academy is from age two. We know that many families require childcare for younger siblings and for primary age children before and after school. We also believe that children deserve quality childcare and through the NCEA Childminder Agency, we can guarantee that our childminders will be trained and supported to deliver this.
How do I become a childminder?
Step 1: Express an interest by contacting Clare Lishman – Director of Early Years (email: firstname.lastname@example.org telephone: 01670 816111 ext 395. We will arrange to have an informal discussion and explain more about the Childminder Agency. We will also consider what training will be needed and create a bespoke training plan.
Step 2: We will carry out an initial visit to your home to check the suitability of the premises and advise of any actions that need to be undertaken.
Step 3: You will then complete an application form and return it to the Academy with the initial registration fee of £250. You will be given a Health Declaration form for your GP to complete.
Step 4: Our Human Resources department will arrange for you to come to the Academy to complete the paperwork for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. We will also carry out a Local Authority check and an Ofsted check to verify that you have not been banned from childminding by any other Local Authority.
Step 5: When all the checks have been successfully completed and necessary training has been accessed, we will carry out a registration visit to your home to check that all actions have been addressed. We will then issue your Certificate and include you on our data base.
Please note that this process could take approximately four to six months.
We also quality assure childminders and provide ongoing support and advice.
