The atmosphere was buzzing in the Catherine Cookson Library when Year 7 students came along to collect their new reading books.
All students had the chance to choose their own book to take home and keep from a list of 17 titles suitable for 11 to 13-year-olds. They are all carefully selected by a panel of experts to ensure quality and suitability.
From funny books to fact books, fast-paced action and mystery – there was something for everyone.
Bookbuzz is a reading programme from BookTrust that aims to help schools inspire a love of reading in Year 7 and 8 students.
Academy librarian, Mrs Littlewood, said: “The scheme is a fantastic way for children to discover new authors. They enjoyed choosing their books and were pleased when they found out that they get to keep it too.”
The library at the Josephine Butler Secondary Campus, named after celebrated local author Catherine Cookson, is open daily for students.
Its shelves include everything from classic texts and the latest bestsellers, to reference guides, careers information, magazines and journals.
